Type 200 Composite Brake Pads (UIC Standard)

Train & Rail Components

Type 200 Composite Brake Pad complying with UIC standard (UIC Leaflet 541-3) is an organic non-asbestos disc brake friction component specially designed for international passenger trains with maximum operating speed up to 200 km/h, categorized as Class S organic brake pad under UIC certification system. It consists of integrated phosphated carbon steel back and resin-bonded semi-metallic friction compound, with two through cooling slots on friction surface for efficient heat dissipation during continuous braking. The formula is asbestos-free, lead-free and low-copper, fully compliant with EU REACH regulation and UIC hazardous substance limits. This brake pad passed full UIC type approval tests including thermal shock, bonding peel strength, friction durability, water aging and noise assessment. It features stable friction coefficient from ambient temperature to 350℃, low wear rate, minimal damage to brake disc, low braking noise and wide operating temperature range (-45℃ ~ 380℃). Widely applied to cross-border European passenger coaches, intercity EMUs and export railway rolling stock equipped with UIC-standard 200-size brake discs, suitable for axle load 13–19t.

Product Description

# Basic Definition

Type 200 UIC-standard composite brake pad is a disc brake friction component designed for international railway passenger coaches with a maximum operating speed of 200 km/h. It is engineered and manufactured in strict compliance with UIC Leaflet 541-3 *Brakes - Disc brakes and their application - General Conditions for the Certification of Brake Pads*. Classified as Class S organic non-asbestos composite brake pad, it is specially matched to braking systems for cross-border European railways and export express passenger trains. Compatible with cast steel brake discs of 200 specification, it adopts an integrated steel back structure with dual cooling slots.

# Material & Structure

The whole product is thermally pressed and composited of phosphated anti-rust carbon steel back and resin-bonded semi-metallic friction body. The formula is completely asbestos-free, lead-free and low-copper, complying with EU REACH environmental regulations and UIC hazardous substance control requirements. Two through cooling grooves are opened on the friction surface to accelerate heat dissipation during high-temperature braking and avoid brake fade and thermal cracking. The steel back is integrally stamped and formed, with bonding strength meeting the standard of UIC peel strength test, eliminating risks of block shedding and delamination under long-term braking.

# Core Performance Advantages (UIC Standard Compliance Features)

1. Stable Friction Performance: It falls within the μ-m average friction coefficient range specified by UIC standards, with negligible fluctuation of friction coefficient from ambient temperature up to 350°C. The braking curve presents linear and stable characteristics without sudden wheel lock or sharp drop of braking force. Its performance deviation under dry and wet conditions is controllable, making it suitable for cross-border lines exposed to rain and snow.

2. Low Wear & Disc Protection: Adopting low-wear formula, the brake pad boasts a long service life. Meanwhile, it significantly reduces scratches and pitting corrosion on the brake disc tread, cutting overall vehicle operation and maintenance costs. Its UIC-certified wear rate is ≤0.8 cm³/MJ.

3. Low-Noise & Eco-Friendly Braking: Designed with braking noise suppression structure to eliminate sharp squealing noise. It contains no asbestos or heavy metal dust, and its dust emission meets UIC railway environmental limits.

4. Wide Temperature Adaptability: Operating temperature ranges from -45°C extreme cold to 380°C continuous braking high temperature, applicable to heavy-load braking scenarios including frigid European regions and long downhill mountain lines.

5. Internationally Recognized Certification: It has fully passed the complete set of UIC type tests (thermal shock, fatigue, peel resistance, friction durability, water immersion aging) and bears official UIC certification mark, which can be directly applied to cross-border passenger trains operating within the EU.

# Scope of Application

It fits international standard railway passenger coaches and intercity express EMUs with maximum operating speed ≤200 km/h, matches UIC-standard brake discs of 200 mm diameter, and adapts to passenger vehicles with axle load of 13–19 t. It is widely applied to China-Europe export passenger coaches, European regional intercity trains, and auxiliary braking systems of cross-border passenger locomotives.
